Epping to Chipping Ongar

IMG_0961IMG_0999

Up late but want a long walk in beautiful rolling hills? This walk is for you.

This walk starts at Epping tube station (on the central line) and traces the Essex Way through woodland, rolling hills and little villages to end at Chipping Ongar, a pretty little town with plenty of nice pubs to stop off at.

Unless you want to get a steam train home, then you’ll need to get a taxi from Chipping Ongar back to Epping, but at 14 mins and with 24 hr central line you can stay as long as you like.

Places to stop

Theydon
The Theydon Oak is pretty close to Epping, but if you’re feeling smug about having such a short journey to get to the country it’s worth a stop off.

Toot Hill
The Green Man is a great pub with a pretty beer garden at the front. It’s not quite half way but has a good selection of bar snacks if you’re not hungry for lunch yet.
